Green Valley Assistance Services Mid-Semester School and Holiday Programs

The Mid-Semester School Program Back to School
sponsored by Green Valley Assistance Services, and supported by local businesses, service clubs, grants and individuals helps children in the area with the necessary school supplies and backpacks. We will provide a food gift card for each family. Over 266 school-age children were provided with supplies in July, 2008 for the start of the school year. For 2009 GVAS will be holding its School program in conjunction with the Holiday program around Christmastime. GVAS has made this change in order to avoid duplicating the Salvation Army’s traditional school supply drive in the Fall. The GVAS School program will now focus on helping children start the mid-semester with what they need.

Our senior volunteers, parents of the teenagers and students representing the Corona Foothills Middle School Leadership Group helping with our Mid-Semester School Program. The school supplies will be picked-up during the GVAS Holiday Program.

The GVAS Holiday Program Holiday Kids
The GVAS Holiday Program helps grant kids' holiday wishes by pairing them with generous donors in the community. Each donor fulfills a child's personalized wish list, providing a personal gift that brightens a child's holiday. Families wishing to participate must complete an application and qualify based on income requirements. In 2008, 171 families received a $50 food voucher to celebrate and cook their traditional holiday meal, and 492 children received gifts. All the gifts for this program are donated and no GVAS funds are used to purchase gifts. Generous supporters of this program are: the Green Valley/Sahuarita Elks, Long Realty Cares, local businesses, churches, civic organizations, La Posada residents as well as hundreds of individuals in the community.

Want to Donate?
For those looking to donate to the Mid-Semester School program, we would gladly accept either monetary or school supply donations. Send all donations to 250 E. Continental Suite #102 Green Valley, AZ 85614. Please contact Barbara Hunt if you would like to help with supplies or volunteering to help on the day of distribution.
