Green Valley Assistance Services, Inc. (GVAS) a private nonprofit 501 c (3) social service agency celebrates its 26 years of "Friends helping neighbors, helping neighbors help friends."

Summary of Programs:

GVAS provides professional case management, temporary monetary/budgeting assistance; referral and volunteer support to families and seniors. Special programs for Children include Back-to-School and Holiday assistance programs.

Service Area:

Green Valley, Sahuarita, and surrounding areas of Continental, Elephant Head, Amado and Arivaca. Limited assistance is provided to Tubac and Tumacacori on a case-by case basis.

Our Mission:

"To passionately seek, secure, and provide essential social services, through efficient use of both Green Valley Assistance Services and community resources, for at-risk seniors, families and individuals, enabling clients to achieve basic human dignity and pride within a solid and thriving community."

History

  • Started as a Children's Christmas Fund established in the 1960's when Green Valley had only 3,000 residents.
  • Christmas Fund grew to a Green Valley Community Fund to collect and distribute funds for emergencies.
  • In 1981, GVAS was incorporated separately and became the first professional social service agency in the greater Green Valley area.
  • Edythe Taylor, social worker and former volunteer, was hired as its first Director.
