The Back-to-School program sponsored by Green Valley Assistance Services and supported by local businesses, service clubs and individuals help children in the area start their school year with the necessary school supplies, back packs, and a $50 gift certificate at Wal-Mart for school clothes. Over 225 school-age children are provided with supplies in July for the start of the school year.
The GVAS Christmas Program helps families; especially children receive gifts from Santa. Families wishing to participate must complete an application and include a list of Christmas wishes. All the gifts for this program are donated and no GVAS funds are used for the gifts. The Green Valley Elks Lodge No. 2592 along with many businesses, churches and hundreds of individuals participate in providing gifts to families. In 2006, 159 families totaling more than 491 people received 1900 gifts.
