The time together to share a meal with people who didn’t know one another was not awkward at all. The buzz and excitement of meeting someone for the first time, telling stories and making new friends was very special to see.
And for every GVAS Senior who couldn’t make the dinner, the phone call that someone cared enough to make sure they were not alone and had a special dinner for them touched their hearts. Thanks to Don and Kathy , meals were delivered to those seniors who were not well enough to leave their home.
As Kathy Wagner from the Arizona Family Restaurant said, “it was such a pleasure to work on this event.”
But the love and sense of giving did not stop there. The Missions Committee at St. Francis Episcopal Church started in August to raise funds to make “Christmas Packages” of warm slippers, blankets and toiletries. The unexpected delivery to over 60 GVAS seniors by staff on Christmas Eve was met with tears of surprise and delight that someone did not forget them.
And for the many angels and Christmas elves who make Christmas special for our children in need. Thank you for creating a special Christmas for the 108 families who were able to grocery shop at Wal-Mart so that they too could prepare their traditional Christmas dinner, and their children (over 300) had a gifts under the tree. Because of the generous donations from businesses, civic clubs, churches (TRICO, Caterpillar, Kohl’s, Green Valley and Sahuarita Elks Lodges, both Lions Clubs, many Newcomers Clubs) and our many individual donors, our families in need had one less stressor during this Christmas time —someone cared enough.
